Task/Problem Overview

This article will discuss how to make inventory items obsolete. This means that once the item is marked obsolete, it will not create demand to be purchased and once the item is out of stock you will not be able to backorder it.

Marking an Item Obsolete

From time to time items are discontinued from a manufacturer. Marking an item obsolete will allow you to sell what you have left in inventory, but it can not be placed on a PO, nor back ordered if there are no longer items on hand.

To get started go to Inventory > Inventory Manager > Item Manager and search for the item. In the item manager screen locate the Settings section.

Next to the Obsolete use the drop-down to select between:

Obsolete and cannot be used - This will allow you to sell the item until stock is 0, but can not be placed on a PO.

Delete when stock reaches 0 - This will allow you to sell the item until stock is 0, once it does the item will be deleted from the system. You can also not place this item on a PO.

When an obsolete item is added to a quote it will be highlighted in yellow. This makes the user aware of the availability.

If you were trying to order more than what is available for this item you will receive the following message.

When an obsolete item is added to a PO the item will also be highlighted. This makes the user aware that it can not be purchased.
